About

«Повернуті імена» (Restored Names) is an open search system of the State Archive of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.

The core mission of the project is to restore every name erased from our history.

The resource provides prompt remote access to reference information on persons persecuted by the repressive bodies of the totalitarian communist regime in 1917–1991, and enables rapid searching for information about them. It brings together two databases.

The first — Deported — contains information on more than 30,000 residents of Ukraine deported in the 1930s–1950s. The database was compiled from information materials submitted to the State Archive of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance by various Ukrainian institutions during the preparation of the List of Deported Residents of Ukraine, for the inclusion of their names in the annual commemoration of the victims of deportations of the communist totalitarian regime held by the European Parliament.

The second — Repressed — has been compiled from the holdings of the State Archive of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.

Both databases continue to be expanded.

The search interface allows comprehensive searching by a range of parameters.
